This page explains how GiltHaus guides are researched, written, checked and kept current. We publish it so you can judge for yourself how much to trust what you read here.
How topics are chosen
We do not guess what to write about. Every guide begins with a question people are actually asking, identified from live search and Pinterest demand, and is prioritised by how many people are asking it and how badly existing answers serve them. If a topic has already been covered well elsewhere and we have nothing to add, we skip it.
How guides are researched
- Design history and terminology are checked against primary and reference sources, not other blogs.
- Product recommendations are based on real listings that are available at the time of writing, with real prices and real dimensions. We do not recommend products we have not examined in detail.
- Where a technique involves renting, we test the claim that it leaves no damage against the actual method, not the marketing.
- Measurements, paint names and product codes are stated specifically so you can verify them.
Who writes and who checks
Guides are written and edited by Ayesha, the founder of GiltHaus, who takes responsibility for everything published. Where we use software tools to help draft, structure or edit, a person reviews every line before it goes live and is accountable for its accuracy. We do not publish content no one has read.
Independence and affiliate links
Some links on GiltHaus are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects what we recommend: products are chosen first, and affiliate programmes are looked up afterwards. We are not paid by brands for coverage, we do not run sponsored posts, and we do not accept free products in exchange for a mention. Our full disclaimer has the details.
Images
We use images we have the right to publish. Where an image shows a specific product, we try to show the actual product rather than a lookalike. If you believe an image has been used without permission, contact us and we will resolve it quickly.
Updates and corrections
Decor advice goes stale: products sell out, prices move, and what counts as current changes. We review guides and update them when something material has changed. When we correct a factual error, we fix it in place and, where it matters, note the change on the page. To report an error, use the contact page.
Safety
Some guides describe DIY work. We describe methods carefully, but we cannot see your home. Anything involving electrics, gas, structural changes or heavy wall fixings should be checked with a qualified professional, and you should follow the instructions supplied with any product over anything written here.
